Dr. Neil J. Maki

Dr. Maki, board certified in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine, has extensive experience in all areas of orthopaedic surgery. He is the first physician in the Tri-Parish area to become Board Certified in the Specialty of Sports Medicine.

He was among the first orthopaedic surgeons to learn, utilize and teach the techniques of Arthroscopic Surgery (a minimally invasive surgery that offers patients needed for surgery with less pain and usually a much quicker recovery). He was the first orthopaedic surgeon in our area to perform shoulder arthroscopy in Louisiana, and is the only surgeon in our area to perform wrist (carpel tunnel) release using the arthroscopic technique.

Dr. Maki is known nationally and internationally for his extensive innovative work in arthroscopic shoulder surgery and was the first orthopaedic surgeon in Louisiana to perform Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery. He has published more that 50 scientific papers as well as speaking at over 150 national and international meetings. Dr. Maki pioneered techniques which are used world wide.

Dr. Maki is a team physician for Nicholls State University. He was also a member of the medical staff for the Saints from 2000-2003, the time during which training camp was in Thibodaux. Dr. Maki has been selected to the New Orleans Magazine Best Doctors list since 2000. He has a clinical professorship in orthopaedic surgery from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans.

Nicole Orgeron-Bourgeois (Certified Physician Assistant)

Nicole is a Board Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C). She is a life-long resident of Lafourche Parish. She received her PA training and degree from LSU Allied Health in Shreveport, Louisiana.
She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Louisiana Academy of Physician Assistants, and Catholic Medical Association.

In addition to assisting Dr. Maki in Surgery, Nicole is well qualified to evaluate and treat you under Dr. Maki’s supervision.

She attends educational meetings and conferences throughout the year to keep abreast with the current technology of orthopaedic and medical treatment.

Other Staff:

Helen Dufrene (Office Manager)

Mrs. Dufrene has been with the practice since September 1981. She graduated from Nicholls State University with a Degree in Office Administration.

She is a member of the Bayou Chapter Medical Manager Group and the Louisiana Medical Group of Medical Managers.

She has attended numerous conferences on healthcare to keep our staff and our patients abreast of the current issues surrounding healthcare.


Angela Deroche (Check In/Check Out Coordinator)

Mrs. Deroche has been with our practice for over 5 years. She is a graduate of Thibodaux High School.

She will greet you for your appointment and gather the necessary patient registration papers from you. She will coordinate your return appointment and make sure you leave our office with no questions unanswered.

Rosemary Hebert (Office Nurse)

Mrs. Hebert has over 30 years experience as the office’s licensed practical nurse (LPN). She has assisted Dr. Maki in surgery for over 20 years and has extensive orthopaedic knowledge. She has attended numerous orthopaedic meetings.

“Rosemary” has been a familiar face and is always eager to help take care of our patients.


Denise Johnson (X-ray Technician/Clinical Assistant)

Mrs. Johnson joined our staff in 2002. She is a registered x-ray technician earning her Associate Degree from Delgado Community College.

She is very efficient and knowledgeable in office radiographic procedures. She also assists the doctor in our clinical setting.
